Crops grown near Turrialba are safe to consume

Vegetables harvested near the Turrialba volcano can be consumed, as long as they are washed with clean, drinkable water first.

This was determined after the analysis performed to verify if the ashes contained heavy metals came out negative.

The deputy minister of agriculture, Felipe Arguedas, stated that

Analyses at the University of Costa Rica ruled out the presence of heavy metals in the ashes from Turrialba. Therefore, the production harvested in the surrounding or affected areas is safe for consumption.”

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health, coordinated efforts with Acueductos y Alcantarillados (aqueducts and sewers) to ensure that water quality is not affected.
