Attention travelers! Since the end of June, many passengers arriving in the country must not fill out the traveler’s declaration that Customs demanded since the 70s.
Now it must be presented only when goods other than baggage are brought to the country, or in situations that by law require a declaration.
The form consists of the sworn statement that is made when entering the country through ports, airports, or land border posts, and in it must be consigned the merchandise other than baggage, cash or securities, and those situations that may affect the human, animal or vegetable health.
The elimination of this declaration was made thinking, mainly, of the Costa Rican travelers and the tourists who usually have to make long lines to present their declaration before Customs, even though they do not bring with them any additional merchandise. In this way, Customs can concentrate on the inspection of those people who are obliged to present the declaration,”
said Juan Carlos Gómez, general director of Customs.
The traveler who is legally and statutorily is obliged to make a declaration and fails to do so, will be exposed to tax and customs sanctions according to the regulations in force in the country.
