Damaged tracks cause the train to derail

Damages to the railroad sleepers would be responsible for the derailment of the train near the Municipality of San José on Tuesday morning.

María Fernanda Arias, a spokeswoman for the Costa Rican Railways Institute (INCOFER), explained that the damaged sleepers must be replaced, which will be costly.

According to Arias, the investigations conducted in these cases take into account the state of the road, possible mechanical failures, speed or human factor.

We have to check the speed of the train in that moment, but the engineers have told us that the speed issue is practically ruled out. It depends on the zones, the maximum speed of the train is 45 kilometers per hour,”

added the officer.

The train service remains normal.
