Dangerous drivers: how old are they?

In the first 2 months of 2017, 51 out of the 77 deaths on the road were young people from 11 to 40 years old. Out of this number, 25 were young people from 21 to 30 years old.

According to Mario Calderón, director of Traffic Police, these figures show a young person’s typical behaviors, not only on the road but also in different parts of their lives, where irresponsibility and recklessness prevail.

The age group with the least deceased people is that of children, since there is only one recorded case of a child under 10 years old who lost his life on a road accident.

Similarly, 6 people over 61 years old have died on car accidents.

Over-60-year-old people are more mature, responsible people. Moreover, the greater their age, the less they go out, then their exposure to accidents is reduced, they don’t longer like or cannot drive and they are used to going out with their children who are also responsible adults,

declared Calderón.

According to the official, the presence of the mom or dad in the car positively influences younger people’s behavior.

In the first two months of 2017, most people died between 6:00 pm and midnight and 21 people died between midnight and 6:00 am. Thus, 50 out of the 77 deaths were at night and dawn, when children and seniors are not likely to be on the street.

This situation takes place at night when speed is not respected, people leave parties or bars under the influence of alcohol, or they can be victims of fatigue behind the wheel. In addition, the lack of vehicles and people on the road makes pedestrians and drivers overconfident and they skip traffic lights in red or walk down the street, depending on the case.
