On Sunday morning, the Public Force caught a subject that could be the alleged drug trafficker named José Arnoldo Díaz, alias “Pelleja”, in Barra del Tortuguero, Pococí.
“Pelleja” is linked to a drug trafficking group that used clandestine heliports in the national territory to mobilize drugs between South America and North America. For this case, five people were sentenced in 2015. However, Díaz -leader of the group- fled on November 2013.
Diaz’ gang operated in Barra del Colorado, Tortuguero, Pococí, Siquirres, Parismina, and the North zone. It is presumed that they supplied fuel and technical assistance to the helicopters that traveled between Colombia and other countries of Central America.
Díaz was caught in the middle of an brawl and knife fight between two men. When the police arrived at the site, they arrested the aggressor, whom they later identified as “Pelleja”.
