The President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, appointed the judge Ada Isabel Porras as Deputy Minister of penitentiary issues. According to the head of the ministry, Marcia González, this will make it possible to better handle the issue of prisoners’ release.
This situation caused controversy during Solís’ administration and, although the Ministry of Justice is not responsible for the releases, González will emphasize the analysis of this situation with the entities in charge.
The Deputy Minister of Justice is a judge with a lot of experience in criminal matters, she knows the system very well and we have taken as a priority the review of all the processes that have been carried out,”
said the head of the ministry on Tuesday.
Porras was a Criminal Judge of San José and will now take over the functions of the Vice Ministry for the next four years.
According to the minister, one of the first actions will be to meet with the National Institute of Criminology, who is in charge of doing the studies to determine if an inmate may receive a benefit.
González already discussed the issue with President Alvarado and will undertake, together with Porras, the analysis actions to find the best solution to a problem that has affected the citizenship.
The new minister, who replaces Marco Feoli, will also try to strengthen the preventive programs and the attention of the people through the Civic Centers for Peace, which were built in every Province.
