Dollar goes over ¢ 600 for the first time

At 1 p.m., Banco Lafise became the first entity to bring the sale price of the dollar to ¢ 600, a level the country had never achieved before.

Since mid-April, the exchange rate started an upward rally that has not stopped. Yesterday, the Foreign Currency market (Monex) registered a strong demand for foreign exchange that warranted a Central Bank intervention to avoid a greater depreciation.

By mid-afternoon on Tuesday, the exchange rate in the wholesale market already crossed the ¢ 590.
