Donate dresses you no longer wear and make prom dreams come true

If you have a cocktail dress and do not wear it anymore, you can donate it to a campaign that is trying to collect at least 100 dresses for students whose high school prom is this year, but do not have an appropriate dress.

Active Club 20-30 of Tres Ríos started the campaign last Monday and have already collected about 50, but they still expect more support.

Maricruz Alvarez, treasurer of the Club, explained that each year they carry out different campaigns and following the one they did in 2017 at the Hogar Casa de Pan in Tibás, they came up with the idea of collecting dresses to help young people in vulnerable situations to enjoy such an important event.

Casa de Pan is a house with a large number of children who live and are cared for there by some wonderful gentlemen, but they are many children. One of them, a teenager, who was going to finish school, told us that she was worried because she did not know if she would be able to go to graduation because she did not have a dress… We realized that it is a common problem, it has happened to us every time we have to borrow a dress to go to a certain event, and many of these students cannot go [to prom] because they don’t have the means to pay for an expensive dress,”

said Álvarez.

According to Álvarez, there have been people who have donated suits for boys, dresses for the mothers of those young people, and even make-up artists and photographers have contacted them to offer their services and create an unforgettable night.

The garment collection campaign will run until July 30th. The Club already has seven collection points in San José, Cartago, and Heredia. Once they have all the donations, they will begin to distribute.

How can a girl or boy be a beneficiary? We will do it through a teacher, counselor, or director of a school in the Metropolitan Area. Send us a letter or write us on Facebook with the case and we will select them there,”

said Álvarez.
