The money donated by Costa Ricans during the campaign “I was born in this country” by REPRETEL, Central de Radios and the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR), will be invested in the construction of houses, repairs of schools and communal spaces damaged by Hurricane Otto.
On Tuesday morning, at a press conference, Fernando Contreras, President of REPRETEL Group, highlighted the effort of the company and the BCR to show solidarity with those affected by Hurricane Otto, pledging to follow up and inform the public about the development of such works.
For her part, Paola Mora Tumminelli, President of the Board of Directors of the BCR, stated that
with great satisfaction, the Bank of Costa Rica, REPRETEL and Central de Radios (CDR) present the funds raised with commitment and solidarity with the victims of Hurricane Otto (…)”
These projects are included in the General Plan of Emergency approved by the Commission’s Board of Directors last March 1st, according to which it is estimated the affected areas require about ¢130 billion colones for their recovery.
Iván Brenes, President of the CNE (National Emergencies Commission) said:
We have opted for a comprehensive recovery that, in addition to rebuilding the damaged areas, will generate opportunities for development. That is why this money from Costa Ricans will be invested in these works.”
Brenes also emphasized that they will ensure the transparency of the use of these resources, for which they will monitor the projects through the General Comptroller of the Republic, the Audit of the CNE and the agreement between Presidential House with the Deloitte Firm for verification and validation of balances of financial resources collected during campaigns in the account of the CNE.
