A drug-trafficking gang was dismantled on Tuesday morning in Siquirres, where 18 people sold marijuana, crack and cocaine.
The subjects had profits of up to two million colones daily, according to Wálter Espinoza, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).
There are 15 people arrested. It is a very important case because the gang distributed in its own terminals and at the same time distributed to other sellers in the Atlantic Zone,”
said the director of the OIJ.
The leaders of the gang, named Grijalba Coto and Guzmán Araya were also captured. They had expanded to Barra de Parismina, Germania, Pocora and Guápiles.
According to the head of the judicial police, Grijalba brought the drug from the Pacific and was the supplier of the group. The 27-year-old man had a record for illegal weapon possession.
Guzmán Araya, 43, had a court file for theft and drug sale.
The investigation against the group began six months ago and it was possible to determine the subjects sold the drug in middle class housing.
During the police operations, the authorities located drugs, weapons and altered vehicles. According to the OIJ the group specialized in the sale of cocaine.
