Aspiring presidential candidate of the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC), Gerald Murray, not only lambasted the leadership of his party, but also criticised his rival Rodolfo Piza, arguing they are obstructing the registration of his candidacy.
The appeal is based on Article 225 of the Electoral Code and Article 131 of the Constitution that enable any
Costa Rican to aspire to the position of the Presidency of the Republic.
The problem came after a request submitted to the Executive Committee to cancel Murray’s nomination, for failing to meet the 2 years of party membership.
Murray claims that there was an agree for that period to be reduced to one year.
The politician also told the press “… they are charging ₡ 40 million per inscription, but the Constitution does not establish this type of requirements. There are arbitrary decisions been made within the party to avoid registering my candidacy.”
According to Murray, there is a fear of new leaderships, and he even pointed out that the governing body of the party is akin to Rodolfo Piza.
The message is that a small group, a mafia if you will, does not want leadership renewal. A small group makes decisions for all, and only those who have money or are friends with entrepreneurs can aspire to the most important position,
insisted Murray.
Therefore, the petition to the TSE involves stopping the registration process of in the PUSC while the issue is resolved.
