Electric bikes importer fights the Treasury over tax collection

Mario Monge has been involved in the sale of electric bicycles since 2014. This year he acquired two new models of electric bicycles. However, he ran into the surprise that, although the Law of Incentives for Electric Mobility had already been approved, he still had to pay taxes.

I’m fighting with the Treasury because I had to pay the taxes, but I sent a letter where I’m asking for the refund of those taxes because it is assumed that those taxes did not have to be collected and customs still did not know about that,”

said Monge.

The law was created with the intention of facilitating the purchase of electric vehicles through the implementation of incentives, and tax exemptions at the time of purchase, including electric bicycles.

Other benefits that should be granted by law is to provide credit advantages accessible for purchase, as long as the deadlines, fees, guarantees and procedures are not compromised.

Electric bicycles are part of the vehicles that promote environmentally friendly mobility. They are already in the market and they can travel between 50 and 60 kilometers with 850 colones of recharge.
