According to the Constitution, every citizen every who is registered to vote may not be prevented from casting their vote every four years in national elections. Under Article 614 of the Labor Code, employers who bar their employees from voting may be fined between 399,400 to 9,186,200 colones ($810 to $18,633). Although there is no set time for voting, the right is governed by the principle of good faith. Meaning, that an employer must give an adequate amount of time.
This year national elections in Costa Rica happen to coincide with the Super Bowl in the United States, on Sunday, February 2nd.
