Epsy Campbell trend gains pre-candidate signatures

Although Legislator Epsy Campbell has not formally said whether she will be aspiring to a presidential nomination by the Citizen Action Party (PAC), the winds blow in favor of her inscription.

This weekend, a representative of her supporters withdrew the forms for the adhesion to her movement.

According to the new disposition by the party authorities, each applicant must submit at least three thousand signatures of adhesions (supporters), as well as ₡ 2.3 million, as part of the requirements.

In addition, they must submit a series of documents, such as a sworn statement to prove they have no charges for domestic violence, sexual violence, drug trafficking or public order crimes, as well as being up to date with municipal taxes and Social Security.

Eduardo Solano, secretary general of PAC, said that in addition to the trends of Epsy Campbell, Carlos Alvarado and Welmer Ramos, two other people were interested in being part of the process: Manuel Enrique Sánchez Rojas and José Francisco Aguilar, who must also comply with constitutional requirements (being Costa Rican, over 30 years old and of the secular state), as well as the obligation to have at least four uninterrupted years in the PAC.

The registration period of the pre-candidates starts on March 22 and ends on the 27th of the same month. The Internal Electoral Court must make the official declaration on April 6th. And the convention is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 9th, when the members of the party will decide who will represent them better in the coming elections.
