Eruptive activity in Turrialba Volcano increased during the night

The eruptive activity in the Turrialba Volcano, located in Cartago, has been more sustained during the last days, reported the National Seismological Network (RSN). From Wednesday night, the tremors are of greater amplitude and the eruptive column has reached more height.

Turrialba has maintained intermittent eruptive activity since July 23rd. It is characterized by passive ash emissions and column heights that can reach approximately 300 meters. However, the one recorded at about 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday reached 500 meters.

The eruption column has reached a little more height, even up to around 500 meters, and is dispersed towards the west-southwest,”

reported the RSN on its Facebook profile. The expelled material would be falling in sectors such as Vásquez de Coronado, San Pedro, Cartago, sectors south of Irazú Volcano, Heredia, among others.

Remember that if you are in one of the areas affected by ashfall, it is recommended to cover your eyes and respiratory tract, in order to avoid impacts on your health.
