Escazú fills with cameras due to wave of assaults

The Municipality of Escazú is promoting a plan to place 60 cameras in different areas of the canton with an investment of 191 million colones.

The electronic devices will be in the accesses and exits of Escazú, downtowns, as well as financial zones and of high density population.

A group of Korean specialists already supervises the placement of the system, its functionality and its operating system. In recent weeks, Escazú has experienced a wave of violence that has worried traders and citizens.

The system is expected to become operational in less than a month. The Municipal Police of Escazú will maintain a permanent monitoring system. Local authorities hope to identify vehicles and people with an “ultra high definition” focus.

In addition, the municipality reported that the software of this team will allow studies of statistical data, criminal analysis, definition of identities, quantities and types of events, as well as the generation of information of police order.
