A professional team is analyzing the health status of the lion Kivú, and if euthanasia is the answer to prevent his suffering.
Bernardo Jaen, General Director of the National Animal Health Service (SENASA) said that chronic renal failure has intensified and the animal’s health has deteriorated.
Professionals from SENASA, MINAE and the National University are analyzing the situation, because Kivú… is losing its appetite, he hardly moves and it’s worse if he starves,
said Jaén.
Last Monday they feed and hydrated the animal with vitamins through his veins, but this procedure requieres general anesthesia and it cannot be done on a regular basis.
The group of professionals would be communicating the situation and giving their recommendations on Wednesday, so that the Minister of Environment and the corresponding authorities define the future of the animal.
