“Everything points at fraud,” says minister on failed trip to Mexico

Hiding, not answering calls, not canceling the charter flight and not having made a reservation in Mexican hotels indicate that more than 200 Costa Ricans could have been victims of fraud by the travel agency Continental Travel.

When Costa Ricans in Mexico realized that no one came for them, some called the hotel and realized that there was not even a reservation. The company did not failed because of some difficulty, it seems to be voluntary,”

said Geannina Dinarte, Minister of Economy.

According to the hierarch, the consumers had filed 5 complaints against the agency, which promised them a trip to Mexico, tours, tickets to watch the National Soccer Team play against the Mexicans, lodging and food.

We had never had a complaint about this agency and we are not necessarily talking about a forward sale (to payments per month) registered in the ministry, so far there is no record. It seems to be a fraud,”

said Dinarte.

The company has not come to the ministry to provide evidence or seek conciliation, but we want to invite those affected not to conciliate unilaterally, because in a conciliation process our resolution becomes a judged matter, so that if there is a breach, we can request a judicial action,”

explained the woman.

Doubting an offer that looks like a bargain is the most important tool that users have when it comes to acquiring a service. Do not believe everything that emerges from social networks.

It was a $1300 deal, marketed by Facebook , with a 2 × 1 package with hotel, food, tickets, stadium tickets included, which definitely reveal that there is a disproportion in costs,”

added Dinarte.

In the case of complaints filed in the Consumer Office, Dinarte explained that the first thing to do is seeking conciliation of the parties. If there is no agreement, the case goes to the National Consumer Commission for study or is finally taken to judicial institutions, where it can take years for a resolution.
