Executive wants no more obstacles to animal welfare law

Luis Guillermo Solís campaign promise to create a law to punish animal abuse is very close to fruition. The Legislature approved the report of the Constitutional Commission of Inquiry, which will be voted on first reading.

In the executive branch they are hopeful that the law is voted on as soon as possible and thus takes effect on one of the most important issues during 2016.

The project is there and we think there is a great opportunity for it to be approved and we hope it happens soon,”

said Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro.

Much earlier (although not be this month, as the legislative agenda is focused on the discussion and approval of next year’s budget), the fast track for the Corporations Act could be set in motion.

Months ago, the project had already been approved in the first reading. However, when sent to the Constitutional Court, it was rejected.

The text passed to the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Legislative Assembly, where they modified it according to the comments of the Court and then went to the plenary, where it was approved.

If the bill is voted on again in December, it is very likely that it will return to the Constitutional Court, since some legislators, such as libertarian Otto Guevara, would be trying to obtain the necessary signatures for a new revision.
