Exercising could reduce the risk of suffering from dementia

According to a recent study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles, people with a sedentary lifestyle have a higher risk of developing dementia in old age.

Therefore, even a little exercise is essential to keep the brain well.

Physical activity has been seen as a way of protection for those who are getting older. It has been proved that the lack of exercise can increase the risk of suffering from Alzheimer,

stated neurologist Alexander Parajeles.

According to the doctor, other studies document that when people exercise regularly, the brain starts to produce substances that are part of a repair system.

The new study states that older people who do little exercise have a 50% higher risk to suffer dementia than those older people who do some physical activities, either moderate or intense.

Brisk walking, bicycling, ballroom dancing and gardening are examples of moderate physical activity.

Thus, the increased blood flow, caused by physical activity, could “strengthen” the brain, increase its volume and foster the growth of more neurons.
