Exporters worried about congestion in Moín

The Chamber of Exporters of Costa Rica (CADEXCO) and the Chamber of Ship-owners and Vapor Agents (NAVE) have been waiting five months for the commissioning of two gantry cranes in Moín.

According to the representatives of both Chambers, the cranes that were valued at $16 million are not yet in operation, although they had to since September 2017.

The exporters are concerned about this situation because they have incurred expenses exceeding $200 thousand per ship and international trade has also been affected.

For the shipping industry it is urgent to implement these cranes in the short time to recover a small percentage of this large national investment, that is why we ask the JAPDEVA authorities for clarity and accuracy on the date that these equipment will begin to operate, since they haven’t even revealed the causes of the delay,”

explained Edgardo González, President of NAVE.

The delay has caused many ships to dock at ports in Panama or other nearby ports.
