Exports of goods from Costa Rica grew by 6% during the first semester of 2018 compared to the same period of 2017, for a total income of $ 5,718 million.
The data was revealed on Monday afternoon by the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) and the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER).
The agricultural sector and that of precision and medical equipment remain the most participative with 28% and 27% respectively. Its growth was 4% and 13%, compared to the first half of 2017.
Electrical and electronic production, from which 5% of exports are generated, also grew by 11% in the first six months of the year.
The only industry that recorded a decrease was food, the third most important in terms of exports. The numbers fell by 0.2% compared to the first months of last year, a behavior rated as “temporary” and “neutral”.
Exports from Costa Rica to the Asian continent, on the other hand, recorded the highest growth (47%) during the first months. The increase in figures was also registered in South America (12%), Central America (6%), Europe (5%), and North America (4%).
However, in the Caribbean region, exports fell by 1%.
