FEMETOM discussed how to improve inhabitants’ quality of life

The Sustainable and Intelligent City Forum was held on March 21st. Authorities from the Metropolitan Federation of Municipalities (FEMETOM) discussed how local governments can improve their inhabitants’ quality of life.

For instance, this improvement can be achieved by fixing roads or by treating waste water.

Juan Antonio Vargas, Executive Director of FEMETROM, commented that everything is related to Costa Ricans’ quality of life, because they are being affected by the Greater Metropolitan Area’s hustle and bustle.

There are aspects that have already affected all of us and that have worsened in recent years, such as mobility, road infrastructure, transport and traffic. The important thing is that municipalities must do something about it,

the official said.

The Executive Director of the FEMETROM explained that among the proposals that were discussed, there is an intercantonal scheme in which the municipalities have already identified the most important bridges that are blocking transport and mobility.

In order to carry out these kinds of projects, the municipalities are betting on the strategic alliance model, whose main advantage is that contracting is faster, as explained by Luis Ortiz, BLP Abogados associate.

According to Vargas, authorities have already planned to work with a transnational company, which offers high-quality steel bridges, whose life cycle is around 70 years.
