Ferry to El Salvador will start operating in August, according to the Government

More than two and a half years after it was announced, the ferry service between Puerto Caldera in Costa Rica and El Salvador will finally start operations, according to the promise by President Carlos Alvarado, after his predecessor Luis Guillermo Solís failed to comply with all the deadlines and offers made in this regard.

Alvarado made the announcement during his tour to Puntarenas on Wednesday, noting that the agreement is achieved after the efforts made in recent weeks, especially as an alternative for the exporting and importing sectors to have a route to avoid traffic problems in Nicaragua.

According to the executive president of the Costa Rican Ports Institute (INCOP), Juan Ramón Rivera, there is already an agreement with one of the concessionaires to start operations in the first week of August, and negotiations are underway with a second company that should only wait for the ship to arrive from Europe.

The goal is that this work scheme can be extended to more countries. The difference for businessmen with the ferry system is that it allows access to the container with a vehicle, so that when arriving at port it can move with greater agility. In the conventional system it is subject to schedules and itineraries of the ships.
