Fire Department invested $1.5 million in five new extinguishing units

The Costa Rican Fire Department allocated $1.5 million (₡851 million) in the purchase of five new extinguishing units.

The 2018-technology units have 415 horsepower and a storage capacity of 1,000 gallons of water and 110 gallons of foam. They have a system capable of pumping 1,500 gallons of water per minute and cabins designed to safely transport up to five firefighters.

The units will be sent to Barrio Mexico, Ciudad Nelly, La Fortuna, Guápiles and Bagaces, said Héctor Chaves, director of the Fire Department.

The delivery was made as part of the celebration for the 153° anniversary of its creation, this Saturday, at the facilities of the F-5 Operations Center, in Santo Domingo de Heredia.

During the ceremony, President Carlos Alvarado, was appointed First Commander of the Fire Department, as part of the tradition.

Minutes before putting on his helmet, the president was on a stage with firefighter Pablo Arley and sang “Highway to Hell”, from AC DC, also during this same celebration.
