Fire in San Cayetano was arson

The fire that took place in Barrio San Cayetano on Thursday morning was classified as arson, due to the evidence on a video that recorded the event.

Although so far authorities have received no complaint, the video recorded by a nearby security camera shows two men walking from the corner about 50 meters at 3:46 a.m.

The first man had a gallon of fuel and the second man covered his head until they reached the house that was in flames a few seconds later. Then, there was a blast and several dogs barking. In less than a minute the suspects were recorded fleeing the scene running.

The rest of the video shows the development of this tragedy, the expansion of the fire, the screams for help, people asking the resiednts to jump from the roof, and a white vehicle passing by three times in five minutes.

At the end of the video firefighters sirens are heard. Seven units of Barrio Luján, Barrio México and Central Station, went to the site of the incident.

180 square meters were initially engulfed in flames and 4 people were rescued: 2 women who didn’t need much attention, an elderly man with a trauma to the hip, and a 35-year old man with 5% of burns on his hands.

Within minutes, the fire spread to other four neighboring houses, affecting a total of 307 square meters. At 4:11 a.m. the emergency was under control, according to Guillermo Montoya Santiesteban, Supervisor of the Communications Office of the Fire Department.
