Experts from the Fire Department are currently conducting an inspection in the apartment where two children were burnt to death last night in San Francisco de Dos Ríos.
Although the cause of the fire is still unknown, it was possible to determine that the flames started on the edge of the bed where the children slept, according to Alexánder Solís, head of Fire Prevention and Investigation of the entity.
The incident occurred early this Thursday in an apartment building, where two children aged eight and 10 were burnt to death after the room in which they slept was consumed by flames.
Agents of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) carried out the collection of evidence at the scene and investigate what happened. The children were found in a bed inside the room that caught fire. The 10-year-old girl was on the bed, while her younger brother was under it.
On Thursday morning, Juan Carlos Herrera, owner of the apartments, told CRHoy.com that the mother of the children rented the apartment a month ago.
Darling Umaña, who used to take these children to school by bus, said they were alone often.
According to data from the Fire Department, so far this year 10 people have died from fires.
