Costa Rica will host a congress that puts stem cell treatments on the table. These procedures are increasingly frequent in the country. However, much more information is still missing from its scope and limitations.
Therefore, the first International Congress of Regenerative Medicine will be held in April.
I think the country has made a great progress… Now there is even a decree and that means that the Ministry has already opened the subject, which is quite good,”
said Mari Gómez from MediCell.
With the concept of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies and implants, doctors seek to treat degenerative diseases, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, lupus, among other illnesses.
They can be used as an assistant in some medical therapies, for infectious diseases such as autohemotherapy,”
commented Gómez. This therapy is used to activate the immune system and is also called “autovaccine”.
According to Priscilla Ortiz, from Costa Rica Innova, and organizer of this event, the Congress will have the participation of several international experts, such as Arnold Caplan and Graham Parker.
I found it important because of the lack of knowledge, it was something that needed to be done and soon at this level, so that the doctors -now that the decree was approved- are instructed and inspired by the fact that Costa Rica can become a world power in that field, if we do things responsibly and ethically,”
explained Ortiz.
The Congress will be held on April 6th and 7th at the Tennis Club.
