Five legislators will be held accountable over cement case

Five legislators would be called to clarify whether they have ties or not with the questioned Chinese cement importer, Juan Carlos Bolaños, in a motion promoted by several lawmakers.

The proposal will be presented this Friday to the special committee of the Legislative Assembly that investigates the possible influence peddling in the granting of $30 million in credits by the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR) to Bolaños.

If the Congress approves the motion, Johnny Leiva and Luis Vásquez , from Partido Social Cristiano (PUSC), Otto Guevara from the Libertarian Movement (ML), Víctor Morales Zapata, now an independent legislator, and Rolando González from the National Liberation Party (PLN), will be called into question.

Ronny Monge, chairman of the commission of inquiry, said he still does not know the motion, but said that some of them should be called.

He added that there is a large list of people who must give explanations and stated that there is a possibility of requesting an extension for up to 45 days for the commission to render the final report.
