Flames destroyed Cerro Pelado in Tilarán

On April 14th, a fire destroyed Cerro Pelado in Tilarán, Guanacaste. Acording to the Fire Department, the place is located 12km southeast of Cañas, in Tilarán mountain range.

The strong wind that lashes the sector complicated the situation and favored the spread of the flames.

Cerro Pelado is a highly-visited area by hiking lovers, who travel to the top of the hill for up to three hours. This place is an extinct volcano surrounded by very dry nature. It has an empty crater and a lagoon.

No victims were reported.
