This week, Former Minister of the Status of Women and Executive President of the National Institute for Women (INAMU) Alejandra Mora Mora will face the election for the position of President of the Inter-American Commission of Women of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Mora is competing against another six candidates from the region. The election will be held between June 26th and 28th in the framework of the next General Assembly of the OAS in Colombia.
The election of the next president of this forum will fall to the secretary general of the OAS, Luis Almagro. Currently, the Presidency is in the hands of Peruvian Ana MarĂa Mendieta.
Mora ran independently, without resorting to the support of the administration of Carlos Alvarado through the Foreign Ministry. When they knew about her intentions to opt for this position it was rumored that the candidacy for Costa Rica was also wanted by the Vice Chancellor of the Republic, Lorena Aguilar.
Weeks ago when CRHoy announced the candidacy of Mora, the former staff refused to talk about her motivations and aspirations to fill this position. She didn’t want to say what she could offer for the women of the region and the country.
