Four American orthopedists will operate about 10 Costa Rican children

Four American orthopedists, experts in spinal surgery, will visit the country this week to operate about 10 Costa Rican children.

With the visit of SpineHope Foundation specialists, children with economic problems or diagnoses that are truly complex at the spine level will be greatly benefited.

This group has visited Costa Rica once a year in the last 5 years, and join specialists from the National Children’s Hospital.

They perform at least 10 surgeries in 5 days, which have all the permits from authorities of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and the Association of Physicians. This medical mission is sponsored by the University of Iberoamerica (UNIBE).

In their previous visit, they focused on surgeries to correct idiopathic scoliosis, a curvature that gives the spine an “S” or “C” appearance. This disease is suffered by about 1% of the child population in Costa Rica.
