Fuel extraction in Manzanillo finally concluded

The works to extract diesel from the ship Yicel stranded in the South Caribbean were completed successfully on Sunday at two o’clock in the afternoon.

The inter-institutional commission formed by representatives of Coast Guard, Sinac park rangers, Talamanca Public Force, Recope, Firemen, National Emergencies Commission, MOPT and the Shipping Agency Atlantic Shipping managed to correctly and safely remove the diesel from the ship.

The works to extract the diesel consisted of the placement of folding tanks where the fuel was stored. Then, by means of interconnected pipes, it was possible to inject water and thus extract the product.

Personnel in charge of the work reviewed the ship several times in order to ensure that no drop of diesel could affect the ecosystem.
