Fuel theft caused spill that contaminated Siquirres aqueduct

Thousands of residents of Siquirres, Indianas and Pacuarito, have no drinking water service due to a problem of contamination with fuel.

The emergency originated on Tuesday morning due to the theft of fuel in a Recope pipeline at Moravia de Siquirres.

The heavy rains of the last hours dragged the hydrocarbon to the margin of the Siquirres River and polluted the liquid that reaches the tanks that Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA) use to supply the population.

As reported by the AyA, Recope is performing the tasks of cleaning the fuel in the Siquirres River, until the AyA can count on water in safe conditions to make it drinkable in the plant.

The call to this population is that they do not consume water from their homes and that they open the pipes so that they can be cleaned.
