Gas stations threaten not to accept card payments starting today

The Chamber of Fuels Entrepreneurs said on Monday that it would stop accepting credit card or debit card payments by at gas stations, if the Ministry of Finance does not stop withholding a fee on the paid amount when this method is used.

Jose Miguel Masis, director of the Chamber, confirmed that the measure would apply as of this Tuesday; so payments can only be made with cash.

Masis said that the retention applied by the Ministry of Finance is 7.31%

It is a very strong decapitalization process. In a meeting with them – Treasury – we explained that this provision should not be applied to gasoline entrepreneurs, because it is a public service.”

With this provision, gas stations avoid passing through the Taxation filter.
