General Prosecutor Emilia Navas conducted a radi in the office of Legislator Floria Segreda Sagot, in the Legislature, for the alleged crime of influence peddling. In addition to the office of the legislator, who belongs to the National Restoration Party, other units of the Assembly were raided.
Last July, CRHoy.com reported the accusation filed against Segreda Sagot for the alleged crimes of influence peddling, disobedience and prevarication. In that document, Mario Delgado Umaña, Financial Director of the Assembly was also accussed.
What is the case? According to the accusation raised by Carlos Luis Hidalgo, who has been a candidate for governor in San José by the Costa Rican Renovation Party, there were a series of civil lawsuits for the sale of a house and this generated procedural debts to be paid by the legislator.
The accusation presented by Hidalgo states that between February 18th and March 21st, 2018, the National Restoration legislator would have wanted to influence Mario Delgado Umaña, financial director of the Legislative Assembly, because she asked him to delay the immediate retention and deposit of the embargoes on her salary as a legislator, on the grounds that in the next few days she would present the requirements to lift the embargoes.
Hidalgo denounced that the rebates should be immediate, as established by law, and that said public official (the Financial Director of the Legislative Assembly) should immediately retain and deposit in the account of the Bank of Costa Rica of the First Court the legally attachable part of the legislator’s salary.
