According to the Global Impunity Index, not a single country in America has managed to place itself among those that attack impunity and its effect on issues such as inequality, corruption and violence.
The report puts the countries of the region among those with the greatest impunity.
For example, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Honduras, El Salvador, the United States and Guatemala are all among the 20 countries with the highest index of impunity.
These results show the conditions of inequality that prevail in the region, not only between countries but within each one. These imbalances constitute an obstacle to the economic and social development of the region. Progress in one indicator does not necessarily translate into progress in others,”
quotes the study by the University of the Americas Puebla, UDLAP Jenkins Graduate School and the Center for Studies on Impunity and Justice.
