One of the two brothers who led the largest and most violent drug organization in the Southern Zone was released from prison recently thanks to a prison benefit.
This was confirmed by Jorge Chavarría, Attorney General of the Republic, who said that a man surnamed Cháves Rodriguez was released a few months ago after receiving the benefit for a sentence of a case that dates back to 2011.
The subject was to serve an 8-year sentence for drug trafficking. Chavarría called on the authorities of Justice to strictly analyze each case before granting benefits.
Cháves led the organization along with a brother named Arce Cháves. In total, the Public Ministry and the Judicial Investigation Agency will bring charges against 25 people, who apparently distributed the drug in houses and even expressly in Pérez Zeledón and Buenos Aires.
The investigation indicates that the organization dominated the South Zone and was a specialist in carrying out tumbonazos, as well as operating with violence, since they also intimidated and threatened members of their own gang, as well as rivals.
Jorge Chavarría said that the subjects invested part of the profits in properties and luxury vehicles.
According to Wálter Espinoza, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency, the gang earned about 20 million colones in the distribution of cocaine and marijuana.
On Wednesday, 34 raids were carried out in Pérez Zeledón and Buenos Aires in Puntarenas.
