The Executive Power appointed the first indigenous ambassador in the history of the country in the Costa Rican embassy in Bolivia.
Guillermo Rodríguez Romero is a native of Suretka, a Bribrí indigenous territory in Talamanca. The new ambassador is a lawyer and has studies in environmental and agrarian law.
According to the Presidency, Rodríguez Romero has more than 40 years of experience on issues related to the autonomy, defense and development of indigenous peoples.
In turn, on Tuesday, the Governing Council fired the Costa Rican ambassador in Russia, Arturo Fournier Facio, and accepted the resignation of the ambassador in Japan, Laura Esquivel.
