Government backtracks and renews commitment to fiscal reform project

Just over three hours after the announcement was made in the Legislative Assembly, the Government changed its decision to call off the tax reform project.

At 6:33 p.m. the Presidential House sent a press release announcing the change of heart. According to the institution, Aguilar’s statements opened new possibilities for negotiation with the different groups.

Both the Minister of the Presidency, Rodolfo Piza, and the Head of the PAC fraction, ensure that the government will not call of the project, and that it will work, as it has done so far, to generate the necessary agreements that will allow the project to advance without eroding the initiative,”

stated the institution.

The main obstacle in recent days is whether or not the basic basket will be taxed. Last week, the Special Commission for Fiscal Reform voted in favor of exonerating it.

In the middle of the night, legislator Victor Morales sent a press release in which he reiterated that Minister Aguilar’s speech gave them new possibilities for dialogue.
