Government confirms former president of the CCSS as ambassador to the United States

As reported by the press on July 13th, the former president of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), Fernando Llorca, will be the new ambassador to the United States.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Epsy Campbell, confirmed that Llorca received the approval last week by the government of US President Donald Trump. The approval is a sign of goodwill from the country where the appointed ambassador goes.

Llorca is a graduate doctor of the Autonomous School of Medical Sciences of Central America, with studies in Economic Policy from the Complutense University of Madrid, a master’s degree in Health and Drug Economics, and a master’s degree in Health Services Administration and Management, both from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona.

He also has a Master’s degree in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Before being the president of the CCSS, Fernando Llorca, was the minister of Health of the previous government. But Luis Guillermo Solís appointed him on June 8th, 2017 as head of that institution when he asked for the resignation of María del Rocío Sáenz.

Llorca will replace Román Macaya, who in turn will replace him in the Presidency of the CCSS.
