Government fired ambassadors in Ecuador, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, and England

The government continues to fire ambassadors appointed by the administration of Luis Guillermo Solís between 2014 and 2018. On Tuesday the Foreign Ministry confirmed to CRHoy the termination of the country’s representatives in Ecuador, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, and England.

As of November 30th, Leda Zamora (Ecuador), Jairo Valverde (Brazil), Arnoldo Herrera (Uruguay), and Juana Guzmán (Panama) will leave their positions. Enrique Castillo, ambassador to England and concurrent in Sweden and Norway, will leave office on August 31st.

This is the third announcement of ambassadors from the last administration being fired by the Chancellery under the direction of Epsy Campbell.

Weeks ago, the chancellor and vice president announced the termination of the ambassadors who were in India, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, and the OAS: Mariela Cruz, Rubén Salas, Pilar Saborio, Doris Osterlof, and Rogelio Sotela, respectively.

The government has already named Sotela’s replacement in the OAS, ambassador Rita Hernández.

Campbell has promised to make a balance between the appointments of political ambassadors and diplomatic career, thus promoting gender parity in the various diplomatic offices of the country abroad.
