Government imposed a declaration of confidenciality over Brazil case’s reports

On October 11th, La Gaceta published a declaration of confidentiality over the political reports submitted by Brazilian Ambassador Jairo Valverde, which means that nobody has access to those documents.

This declaration was signed by president Luis Guillermo Solís and minister of Foreign Affairs, Manuel González on October 3rd, four days after the Chancellor’s appearance before the plenary of the Legislative Assembly.

The discretion statement will remain until the matter of addressing the respective reports does not compromise the external relations of the Republic,

stated the document.

The Executive applied the declaration based on several articles of the Constitution and the General Law of Public Administration, specifically Article 273 which states that there won’t be access to sections or files whose knowledge could compromise state secrets.

According to legislator Rolando González, this declaration is generating more questions and makes them wonder what the government wants to hide regarding this issue. That is why last week González made an appeal to the Constitutional Court for the government to deliver the reports. He is still waiting for an answer.
