Government is still paying debt illegally

The current government would continue to face the payment of public debt illegally because there is no budgetary content to do it otherwise. This was denounced on Monday morning by the president of the Public Expenditure and Income Control Committee of the Legislative Assembly, Jonathan Prendas.

The legislator questioned the national treasurer Martha Cubillo because these payments are still being made and to date they amount to ¢ 254 billion.

In this regard, the National Treasurer did not deny or confirm the figure. However, she did confirm that the payments are still being made, although she made sure not to point them out as illegal.

The official refused to be held responsible for the illegal payment and to have authorized it. When asked about this, she said the system makes the payments automatically so there is no specific authorization.

The Treasury is responsible, I don’t understand how we can blame a computer,”

questioned the liberationist Franggi Nicolás.

In this regard, Cubillo said that responsibility will be an aspect that must be determined in an investigation.
