Government prepares “robust strategies” to fight wave of femicides

The government of the Republic assured on Tuesday that it is working on a robust strategy to attack the wave of femicides that have shaken the country in recent months.

The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) said there is a high probability that the body found in Escazú is that of a Venezuelan tourist who disappeared on November 27th, and that is why Communication Minister Juan Carlos Mendoza said that the Government institutions will meet to evaluate “robust strategies” that attack femicides.

Mendoza said that the issue is worrisome for the government and that it was even discussed on Tuesday in the Governing Council.

It is necessary to raise awareness, create campaigns to be able to treat and see how masculinities are lived and how violence against women is occurring, femicides are affecting us throughout our society,”

said Mendoza.

This is the third case of a crime against female tourists in less than five months.
