Last week, the Governing Council appointed the new Board of Directors of the Bank of Costa Rica, replacing the two members who resigned and the five members who were suspended. However, hours after the election, Haydeé Mendiola decided not to accept the appointment.
Mendiola’s replacement has not yet been chosen, according to information provided by the ministry of the Presidency.
The hierarch of that portfolio, Sergio Alfaro, was the one who chose and recommended the new members. Each of them were interviewed by telephone and then reported to President Luis Guillermo Solís and the Council.
The other six members: Adriana Céspedes, Shirley González, Luis Diego Vargas, William Calvo, Abel Salas and Carlos Alberto Hernández were sworn in last Wednesday.
Vargas has received several inquiries in recent days for his close relationship with Mariano Figueres and for a debt he has with the CCSS for just over ¢10 million.
They come to replace Ronald Solís and Gustavo Arias, who resigned the position at the request of the president. In addition, Mónica Segnini, Alberto Raven, Francisco Molina, Evita Arguedas and Paola Mora, who were suspended by the Governing Council while the removal process is being carried out.
The suspended executives had begun to investigate all irregularities in the granting of credits by the bank and were even going to make the decision to separate the manager Martio Barrenechea, who they suspended for three months.
