Government to pay ¢195 billion in bonuses on December 2nd

On December 2nd, the Ministry of Finance will pay ¢195 billion in bonuses to nearly 210,000 active officials, temporary or substitute staff and pensioners from the National Budget.

This represents 4.5% more than last year, as a result of wage increases.

This money is distributed as follows:

44.5% to workers from the Ministry of Education
55.5% to the rest of the government ministries: pensioners, Legislative Assembly, Judicial Branch, Ombudsman’s and Comptroller General of the Republic officials.

Helio Fallas, first vice president and finance minister, said that the bonus is a workers’ right and a commitment from the government. Contributors can rest easy because despite the current difficult fiscal situation in the country, the resources to meet this obligation are guaranteed.

The day before, the pension of the Disability, Old Age and Death Regime of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund will be deposited.

To calculate the bonus, workers must take as a basis the wages paid, or the pension received, from November 1st, 2015 to October 31st, 2016.

Martha Cubillo, national treasurer, said that the calculation processes were completed and everything is planned to make disbursements on Friday, December 2nd.

Remember that the bonus is not withholding, except for child support, which will be paid two business days after the Christmas bonus.
