Government wants solution for migrants

Communications Minister, Mauricio Herrera, said they are looking for international action to minimize the effects of the increasing number of African migrants in the country.

According to Herrera, this situation is complex, new and different from what happened with the Cubans, because they had identity documents and if there was a law allowing to send them to the United States.

However, most African migrants have no documents and immigration authorities doubt they can be deported.

The Minister said the government is giving humane treatment to all people to prevent them from falling prey to coyotes.

According to reports from the General Directorate of Immigration 100 migrants are arriving to Costa Rica every day.
