Government warns Nicaragua that it cannot enter national territory

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned Daniel Ortega’s regime in Nicaragua that his country’s army cannot use Costa Rican territory to enter the Nicaraguan lagoon Harbor Head, which is located at the northern tip of Calero Island, Costa Rican territory in the Caribbean Sea.

The warning was sent on Wednesday by Chancellor ai, Lorena Aguilar, to her Nicaraguan counterpart, Dennis Moncada.

The note was sent after President Carlos Alvarado told the media that his government is concerned about the intentions of Daniel Ortega’s regime to declare Harbor Head a wild refuge, since the decision could cause a new diplomatic conflict with the neighboring nation because that lagoon is located in Costa Rican territory.

Ortega’s proposal does not mention how they will send personnel from the Nicaraguan Ministry of the Environment or the teams of scientists they intend to appoint to care for and preserve the Harbor Head lagoon, without the authorization of the Costa Rican government.

As reported by Casa Amarilla, Costa Rica believes that, in the project,

incorrect ratings are made about the geographical condition of this lagoon, as well as its direct connection with Nicaraguan territory.”
