The Executive Branch will send ask the Legislative Assembly to approve a loan for $90.4 million to promote water sanitation in Jacó, Quepos, Golfito and Puntarenas.
The loan was granted by the German bank KFW. The contract states that the cancellation period will be 20 years. The contract was signed on Thursday in the Presidency of the Republic by Carlos Alvarado and the project manager of KFW, Thomas Wittur.
Once the plan is approved by legislators, the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AYA) will give $10 million for the project.
The AYA leader, Yamileth Astorga, said that the projects in the four localities include wastewater treatment plants, sewage networks, and pumping stations.
In Jacó, Quepos, Golfito and Puntarenas there are no modern sewage systems, which represents a risk to the health of its inhabitants. The works are estimated to conclude in 2024.
